Strengths and weaknesses
Hevy
- Generous free plan with unlimited workout logging
- Quick, clear logging screen mid-workout
- Active community for routines and motivation
- Free plan caps the number of saved routines
- Less hand-holding than coaching apps like Fitbod
Hevy is the best workout tracker for most lifters. Logging sets is fast, rest timers and previous numbers sit right where you need them, and the free plan is unusually generous. A social feed lets you follow friends and copy their routines. Hevy Pro unlocks unlimited routines and deeper analytics. The main catch is that it tracks your training rather than planning it, so you bring the program.

MyFitnessPal
- Massive database covers most branded foods
- Connects with many apps and wearables
- Familiar, easy daily logging
- User-submitted entries are often inaccurate
- Free version is ad-heavy with key tools paywalled
MyFitnessPal is the calorie counter most people try first, and its food database is the biggest reason to stick with it. You will find almost any branded or restaurant item. But much of that database is user-submitted, so errors creep in, and the free version leans heavily on ads while many useful tools sit behind Premium. It still works for basic calorie counting, with more friction than before.
