Strengths and weaknesses
Bloons TD 6
- Enormous amount of content for the price
- Regular free updates with new towers and maps
- Single-player works without Wi-Fi
- Upfront price plus an in-app store
- Label allows tracking by identifiers and usage
Bloons TD 6 is the tower defense game to beat on a phone. You place monkey towers along a track, pick one of three upgrade paths for each, and watch waves of balloons pop in satisfying chain reactions. Version 57 adds yet another Paragon, and boss events, Odysseys and four-player co-op keep it going long after the maps are cleared. It costs up front, and the optional in-app store is easy to ignore.

Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD
- Polished art and clear touch controls
- Two-hero battles add new tactics
- Plays fully offline
- Some heroes and towers cost extra
- Label allows tracking by identifiers and location
Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis goes back to where the series started, and it's a fine place to start yourself. You build towers on fixed spots along winding roads, bring two heroes into every battle, and juggle spells as bosses push through. Eighteen stages with harder modes give plenty to master, and it plays without a connection. The catch: some heroes and towers are extra purchases on top of the price.
