Windy puts the tools meteorologists use into a free app. Flip between ECMWF, GFS, ICON, meteoblue and local high-resolution models, then watch wind, rain, waves, snow or air quality animate across more than 50 map layers. Pilots, sailors, surfers and storm watchers get airport data, tides, webcams and a hurricane tracker. The sheer amount on screen takes some learning, but nothing else this capable costs so little.

Acme Weather comes from the people who made Dark Sky, and it shows. Down-to-the-minute rain forecasts are back, but the clever part is honesty: extra forecast lines show how sure the prediction is and what else might happen. Maps cover radar, lightning, snow totals and hurricane tracks, and users can file condition reports. It's iPhone-only and has no free tier after the trial, so you're paying for the approach.
