Strengths and weaknesses
Runna
- Plans built around your race date and schedule
- Workouts sync to popular watches
- Plans adapt as your fitness changes
- $119.99 a year is steep
- No free tier after the trial
- Identifiers are used for tracking
Runna builds a training plan around your race, your schedule and your current fitness, then adjusts it as you log runs. Workouts sync to an Apple Watch, Garmin, COROS or Fitbit, and plans cover everything from a first 5K to an ultramarathon. Coaches design the plans, and a 2026 partnership with Loughborough University is reviewing how they handle load and recovery. It's priced like a coach rather than an app, so casual joggers can skip it.

Peloton
- Excellent instructors and production quality
- Huge variety of class types and lengths
- Follow along on any bike, treadmill or mat
- App+ costs more than most workout apps
- App One allows only three equipment cardio classes a month
- Peloton IQ's best features need Peloton hardware
Peloton's app has the most energetic class library in fitness. You get thousands of on-demand cycling, running, rowing, strength, yoga and meditation classes led by instructors with real personality, and you don't need Peloton hardware. App One covers strength and outdoor runs but allows only three equipment cardio classes a month, so riders need the pricier App+. Production is excellent; the price is not small.
