Strengths and weaknesses
Gemini
- Works across the Google apps you already use
- Generous free tier with strong models
- Default assistant on many Android phones
- Chats may be reviewed by people unless you change settings
- Best features are tied to Google accounts and services
Gemini is the easy pick if you already live in Google's apps. It can work across Gmail, Drive, Calendar and Maps, writes Deep Research reports, and handles long documents and images well. Gemini Live makes voice chats feel natural. The trade-off is privacy: activity is kept and may be reviewed by people unless you change your settings. The free tier is generous, and paid plans bundle extra Google storage.

Microsoft Copilot
- Strong models free to use
- Copilot Vision helps with what is on your screen
- Works inside Word, Excel and Outlook with Microsoft 365
- Feels cluttered next to more focused rivals
- Many features depend on a Microsoft account
Microsoft Copilot gives you strong models for free, with voice chat, image creation and Copilot Vision, which can look at your screen or camera and talk you through what it sees. It is built into Windows and Edge, and a Microsoft 365 subscription brings it into Word, Excel and Outlook. The catch is that it feels less focused than rivals and nudges you toward Microsoft accounts and services. A good fit for Windows users.
